This is a rework of an older illustration that I did. I have a couple in the bank that I really liked the idea but because of my skill level at the time, I felt that I didn't hit the mark. It was fun and I plan on doing it with some others that I did, hopefully it will help me to see where and how that I have progressed.

This is my first illustration of 2012. I am again trying to emulate a WOW aesthetic. It took me a long time to bang this one out with working full time and going to school full time as well. I have moved into a producer role at work so this time spent creating art at home feels even more special to me now.

I logged into my blogger today to see that my last post was number One Hundred. I started this blog four years ago as a visual representation of my renewed commitment to raise my drawing skills. I work primarily as a 3D artist but wanted to eventually branch out into the world of freelance illustration and inform my work at the games studio. I feel like I have progressed allot but still have a long way to go.

My wife bought me a Half tone sketch book and this was my first try at using it. I really enjoy being able to add all the highlights and sketching on the textured brown paper has a nice classic feel to it.... Two thumbs up for the new sketch book :)

ArtOrder Challenge - Process

I have been trying to get active in the Fantasy illustration community and one great place to do that is over at ArtOrder . The latest competition is a 3 phased one where each entrant does 3 thumbnails then a finished sketch and then a final rendered piece. We are currently in phase 2 and this is my finished line drawing and value sketch. Its interesting to see a whack load of artists very different take on a very specific brief. The top image is my final thus far. I am going to take another pass at it and try a less comic book rendering before the contest is over.

Another environment painting. I used XSI to block out the structure quickly and that allowed me to get a dynamic angle and dive right into the painting of it in Photoshop. I am trying to play with color and mood and I hope to bring that out next time by making it more of a complete scene instead of just a structure.

Getting my MBA

I have just been accepted to UPEI's MBA program in the fall. Its going to be interesting to be doing art all day and business classes at night, but I guess its that polarity that attracted me to the idea of going for it. Should be an interesting couple of years. My hope is that the MBA rounds out my overall skill set and helps me to keep advancing in my career.
